Acid King, a stoner-metal band active since 1993, makes a powerful comeback with their latest album, "Beyond Vision" (Blues Funeral). Initially planned as an experimental collaborative album between lead guitarist and frontwoman Lori S. and guitarist Jason Landrian of Black Cobra, the project evolved into a full-band effort featuring bassist Bryce Shelton and drummer Jason Willer. "Beyond Vision" maintains Acid King's signature raw heaviness while incorporating synths and keyboards, creating a lush psychedelic soundscape. The album marks the band's first release since 2015 and showcases their deep cosmic patience and mesmerizing sound. With a few one-off dates in California and Texas, as well as appearances on the European festival circuit, fans eagerly anticipate Acid King's return to the live stage.
What Worked
Heavy, thick, doom-laden stoner rock with no concessions, Acid King return with more of what they do best. So big and fuzzy, it feels like you can sink into the grooves. From slow-burning opener "One Light Second Away" to the gloomy stomp of closer "Color Trails," there is no mistaking this album or band for anyone else.
What Didn't Work
Nothing. The album is perfect for what it is, and should have been released on 4/20.
