"Sinister Whispers IV: The Bedroom Tapes 1987-1988" is part of the artist's retrospective series and focuses on rare recordings from the pre-band days when the duo began collaborating. The collection features 13 songs, jams, and grooves recorded in a small Chicago bedroom during the winter of 1987-1988. These recordings highlight My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult's industrial origins, with distorted vocals, percussion sounds reminiscent of jackhammers, and a touch of Satanic adoration. The album offers a glimpse into the band's early creative process, capturing the manic and youthful angst that was present at the time. "Sinister Whispers IV: The Bedroom Tapes 1987-1988" is available for pre-order on physical CD and download. My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult will also embark on the EVIL EYE 2023 Tour, joined by special guests Adult and Kanga. The band hails from Chicago's Wax Trax! Records have been active since 1987, helping to develop the industrial music genre and gaining recognition for their diverse repertoire. They have released 14 studio albums and have contributed to various soundtracks and film scores.
What Worked
This is an exciting look rarely seen in the genre. Buzz McCoy has stated that demos are working ideas, with lyrics made up on the spot, and the recordings are spontaneous live recordings. While the demos obviously don’t have the final polish of a produced album, the listener can hear how the technology of the time was pushed to create something new and different and captures the manic energy of TKK in their earliest years.
What Didn’t Work
As a collection of demos, there is a limited market for Sinister Whisper IV outside of hardcore fans of the band and genre. Fans will find this a worthwhile addition to their collections.
