My runaway vote would be for Jawbreaker's lovely, embattled 'Dear You.' There's a whole novel or two worth of backstory there. Like most fans of the band, it took me far too long to warm up to the record, but when we finally did it was worth it.
Second place would be a vote for June. Superchunk cast a long shadow over the NC scene, but there were a ton of other great bands there at the same time. June only had the one record (I think??), but it's a good one.

yup, June only had one full-length but put out many singles and appears on some compilations.
